Thinking of You on Mother's Day! |
May 7, 2010 |
A Mother's Prayer
Lord, today is Mother's Day, but my heart is split in two.
Half is with the child still here,
The other with the child that is now there with you.
All the lovely presents are a nice surprise,
But the one thing I want most is missing,
And tears fill my eyes.
I know when you sent him, Lord,
You didn't promise how long he would stay.
All you said was to love him and treasure each and every day.
But Lord, it crushed my heart when you called for his return.
I feel like half a Mom, as I ache, weep and yearn.
But Lord, tell him I love him just as much as I did before.
And could you please make a window,
so he can see through heaven's door ?
Let him see that he is missed and thought of with each breath.
And that a Mother's love begins before life, and does not end with death.
So, on this Mother's Day, the Greatest Gift, I give to you.
For Lord, I know you missed him and you loved him, too.

They say wings are a gift, coming from heaven above
Handed down by God and given out of love
They say wings are a gift, given to God’s precious few
To those who are selfless, caring and true

Happy Birthday In Heaven Jessica

March 21, 2008 |
I was at Noah's birth to offer support to Jessica and Jack. I just learned of Jessica's passing today this week. For months, I have been praying she would call or e-mail me and feeling in my gut that something wasn't right. During the past year, I searched Jack Quinn and Kmart repeatedly, hoping to get an e-mail address. I tried her old e-mail. I put J & J and New Jersey in anywho.com. Today, the answer I had been fearing came when their former neighbor came into my classroom and explained his wife had a friend who worked for Kmart and knew of Jack and before he could even say it, I knew what he was there to tell me. I had just read a few months ago in some women's magazine that those diagnosed with breast cancer soon after pregnancy often didn't survive. I knew I was meant to read it and realize how blind I had been. I am so ashamed. When Jessica told me of her diagnosis back in January of 2006 (after the Christmas holidays because she didn't want to be a drag), I didn't take it seriously. I was naive and in denial. She was too young. She had just given birth. I love motherhood and life; nobody I knew could be denied that. I witnessed Jack and Jessica transformed from a couple into a family of three. Nothing would go wrong. It seemed from her disposition she had a plan and would call me if she needed anything--for me to watch Noah during a doctor's appt. or so the two of you could go out--she never called. I continued to let my life be too busy and not look more diligently for her cell phone number or stop by Tamerack Trail. Then, they were gone, moved.
When Geoff told me Tuesday, he mentioned he thought she had a sister who had passed also. I told him I met Amy when Noah was born and I didn't think she had another sister. I then explained that I thought their mother had been a survivor but that I asked Jessica about Amy when she told me about her diagnosis and whether she was concerned she could face a similar predicament. She said, "No; she eats way too healthy. She is very aware of her body and takes excellent care of herself. She eats all organic food and soy products."--or something like that.
Needless to say, I was shocked when I got home and did a google search and found Amy's obituary and a guestbook about her before I found www.forjessica.org. I'm so sorry. I love the name Gavin and I'm glad Jessica and Jack were able to have another son. Gavin and Noah are going to be the best of friends. I'm sorry I wasn't there for Jessica and grateful to see, after reviewing the foundation site, the caring bridge site, and the lastingmemories site that she did have friends that rallied around her.
I love the pictures available on the websites and will continue to treasure the memory of Jessica's glow when cradling her first son in her arms.
